Drought-Proof Your Home

Drought conditions were prevalent throughout the United States in 2002. In addition to water restrictions due to drought, did you know that every drop of water you use in and around your home has to go through a water treatment plant to be reused. Here are some ways you can conserve one of the earths precious resources:

Repair all leaks inside and out.
*Leaky toilets can waste more than 100 gallons of water a day!
*Dripping faucets can waste up to 2700 gallons of water a year!

Do not run tap water to wash your produce or defrost meals.
*Use a pan of water or partially fill the sink.

Do not do small loads of laundry.

Use piping to send gutter runoff toward shrubs and trees.
*Collect rainwater in a barrel to water plants.
*Reuse water from the sink to water house plants.
